CASTLE RUINS
The castle built in the 10th century, which was the headquarters of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem under the Crown of Catalonia and Aragon
Built in the 10th century on the site of an Iberian village on the banks of the Ebro, Amposta Castle had a certain influence when it was reconquered in the 12th century by Ramon Berenguer IV, who made it the headquarters of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem under the Crown of Catalonia and Aragon. The vicissitudes of time later led to the abandonment of the castle, which was transformed into a quarry and then into a rice mill. Some remains of the medieval period remain today, such as the pit, the base of the Tower of St. John or the stone arches facing the Ebro.
