THE BEACHES
12 kilometers of beaches in Alcanar, where one of the wildest is located, the platjia de l'estanyet with waters suitable for diving
With the 12 kilometers of beaches in Alcanar, the Catalan coastline comes to an end. Most of them are pebble or gravel beaches splashed with turquoise water and are less crowded than the other beaches on the coast, which is quite a boon in the height of summer when the surrounding beaches are completely crowded (at least for those who don't mind pebbles)!
Some of them stand out, like the platja de la Martinenca in Alcanar Platja, a sandy beach with shallow water. The long platja de Maricel, made up of gravel, stretches between Alcanar Platja and Les Cases d'Alcanar (bar, restaurant, showers, toilets and parking on site). The platja de Marjal, which runs along the promenade of Les Cases d'Alcanar, is probably the most popular of all with its white pebbles. It has been awarded the Blue Flag (nautical center, bars, restaurants, showers, toilets and parking on site and surveillance in summer). Along the beach there are " nius de metralladores", fortifications built by the Republicans during the civil war to prevent the arrival of fascist troops.
The platja de l'estanyet is undoubtedly one of the wildest with its calm waters suitable for diving. Finally, at the southern border, we find the platja de Sol de Riu, a long beach of 4 km where the river Sénia flows into the Mediterranean (no restaurants or showers). This river marks the southern Catalan border. Please note that dogs are allowed on the Platjola beach.
