JUICE AREA
Neighborhood located between Plaça Major and Plaça de l'Esglesia, whose main activity was the trade of saffron
Documents dating from 1272 mention the presence of a Jewish community of about thirty families in Santa Coloma de Queralt. This community was located in the area that is today between Plaça Major and Plaça de l'Esglesia and its main activity was the trade of saffron, a product that was highly prized in the Middle Ages, but its members also held some important administrative positions. This community was expelled here, as elsewhere in Spain, in 1492 by a decree of Ferdinand II of Aragon.
