Located on a promontory in Riudecanyes (20 min from Montbrió), the old fortified monastery of Sant Miquel d'Escornalbou dominates the surrounding area. Built at the end of the 12th and beginning of the 13th century under the aegis of Alfons I, it was the decision-making center of an important barony. First inhabited by Augustinian monks, it was then occupied by Franciscan monks from 1580 to 1835. At the beginning of the last century, it passed into the hands of Eduard Toda, who restored it and turned it into a residence.
