This museum established at the entrance to the small mining community of Van Lear, presenting its history, from its creation in 1912 to the end of mining in 1946. The building was created in 1913 as the mining company consolidation company Consolidation Coal Company (Consol). Abandoned for many years and then bought by a bank, it was ceded to the Van Lear Historical Society in 1984 who created this museum. In the museum, there is a commemorative plaque of the methane explosion that occurred on 17 July 1937 in mine No. 155 and the death of 9 minors.
