NORTH CAROLINA HISTORY CENTER AT TRYON PALACE
In October 2010, Tryon Palace inaugurated the North Carolina History Center, a 5 600 m ² complex with two museums: the Pepsi Family Center and the Regional History Museum. The complex also has a boutique, several discovery rooms, a 200-seat amphitheatre and a café-restaurant (Lawson's Landing - Aperitivo) with outdoor terrace on the Neuse River. Count 15-30 a. m. to a. m. for the Pepsi Family Center and minutes for the Regional History Museum.
Pepsi Family Center offers a return to the th century. The remonter machine takes you to a coastal village in North Carolina in 1835. You can pilot a ship, distil turpentine (or turpentine gum, produced at the time thanks to the many résineux of the region), manufacture parts for boats sailing through the two nearby rivers, help a cook in the search for its ingredients or Main Street traders who need labor… A journey for the entire family that will captivate the youngest.
The Regional History Museum invites you to explore the history of the region with the help of many teaching materials (audio, video, interactive screens…). The journey begins in a forest, or you will discover the importance of geography, climate and ecosystems in the history and development of the Central Coastal Region. You will also discover how the first settlers settled, how slaves were brought about, interactions between the different populations over time and the importance of churches, communities, schools and government in the social, economic and political evolution of the state. You will learn how the industry has adapted to natural resources and manpower over the centuries, whether it be shipbuilding, agriculture or the wood industry…
