The Roman station of Cerrado do Castelo was a villa that housed a stopover or relay.
The Roman station of Cerrado do Castelo, known as "castle" in Portuguese, may have been a villa housing a stopover or relay. It was built between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD. Its ruins were discovered during excavations carried out in 1989: it was possible to identify two distinct cores, one housing public baths, the other housing tile-making kilns. Curiously, the Roman station is located within the perimeter of... the Grândola elementary school.
