FONT DEL LLEÓ
Fountain in Caldes de Montbui with one of the hottest thermal springs in Europe.
Crowned by a sculpted lion, this fountain, restored by the modernist architect Manuel Raspall and the sculptor Eusebi Arnau in 1927, is the emblem of the city. Its origin dates back to 1581. It is one of the hottest thermal springs in Europe, with steaming water rising to 74°C. It comes from rainwater heated in the bowels of the Earth to over 3,000 metres in a geothermal process that lasted almost 10,000 years. Rich in chloride and sodium in particular, these natural mineral waters have medicinal properties that have been known since time immemorial.
