METEPENAGIAG HERITAGE PARK
This historic park tells more than 3 000 years of history of the Metepenagiag Micmac. The site proposes to the visitor a total immersion in the Micmac culture: discovering the unrelenting and affectionate music of ancestors transmitted from one generation to another, walks through the didactic paths explaining the life of Indians, their customs, their art of fishing and hunting. The historic park also preserves two of the most outstanding historical indigenous archaeological sites in eastern Canada: national sites of the Augustine and Oxbow mound.
Augustine's mound and Oxbow site show burials and artifacts that reflect the traditions of North America, and these treasures go back over 2 500 years. They are the symbol of the exceptional and lasting Mi'kmaq spirituality that continues to continue today through ceremonies.
