The only American cemetery in the Netherlands, 8,301 American soldiers who fell in the liberation of Belgium and the Netherlands are buried here, on 26.5 hectares. Entrance to the cemetery is via the main courtyard, with a pool reflecting the tower. To the right is the information center, and to the left an open room with walls covered with maps depicting the various military operations. The names of 1,722 missing men and women appear on the walls. The chapel is well worth a visit, with its chandelier and candelabra donated by the Dutch government.
