ROMEINSE KATAKOMBEN (ROMAN CATACOMBS)
Located 25 meters below ground, these catacombs, replicas of those in Rome, offer a fascinating tour of the Roman past.
These catacombs, replicas of those in Rome, were built by Jan Diepen, the son of a wealthy Tilburg textile manufacturer, in collaboration with architect Pierre Cuypers. Located 25 meters underground, they opened to the public in 1910 and continue to attract the curious. The tour takes in the Roman past from the beginning of Christianity to the 3rd and 4th centuries, through richly decorated crypts. A fascinating adventure!
