GEULPOORT
Geulpoort a medieval city gate, reconstruction under the desire to enhance the historical character
Originally the town's medieval gateway, it was gradually demolished and eventually disappeared altogether. It was finally rebuilt in 2014, to enhance Valkenburg's historic character. The plan is based on a model dating back to the 14th century and includes an observation platform. The reconstruction may seem a little too polished for some, but it has the merit of giving a definite historical cachet to this corner of the town. The project has also helped revitalize the town's tourist appeal.
