CULLERA CASTLE
It was on the ruins of a former Arab castle of the th century that King Jaime I built this new fortress in the th century, with the aim of ensuring the control and defence of the territory, at this particularly sensitive point of the coastline and the mouth of the River Júcar. Declared of cultural interest, it is the most emblematic monument of the city since it dominates the bay of Cullera from the top of the mountain, and is thus an excellent viewpoint from which one can see the entire Ribera region. The ensemble consists of a fortress, two fortified enclosures and five towers. Its Gothic chapel houses the archaeological museum of the city.
