LINGARAJ TEMPLE
Temple dedicated to Harihara, but also an important Hindu pilgrimage center with shrines and a 60 m tower
Built in the XIe century, the temple of Lingaraja is dedicated to Harihara, a deity combining Shiva and Vishnu. It is an important center of pilgrimage of Hinduism. This complex, a jewel of Kalinga architecture, is dominated by an imposing 60-meter tower (shikara) and has 150 smaller shrines. Non-Hindus can view the interior of the compound from a free platform to the right of the entrance. People not affiliated with the temple will ask you for a donation, so don't be fooled!
