KARENG GHAR
Built in 1747, this seven-storey former Kingdom palace is one of the finest architectural relics of the Ahom period.
In Garhgaon, formerly known as Rangpur, capital of the Kingdom of Ahom. The Kareng Ghar is the ancient palace of the Kingdom, originally built in 1747 with materials such as wood and stone. After its destruction, it was rebuilt with bricks and local cement for Rajeswar Singha, king of Ahom from 1751 to 1769. It is this seven-story building that remains that we can admire. The Garhgaon Palace, as it is also called, is undoubtedly one of the best remnants of the architecture of the Ahom period.
