Built in 1908 thanks to donations from I. Piankov, a representative of a large company, the theatre opened its doors in 1909 with the premiere of Griboedov's play, The Misfortune of Having Too Much Spirit. Since then, many Russian and foreign artists have toured there. Among them, the famous Russian actress and tragedian Vera Komissarzhevskaya. Nowadays, you can see performances by both classical and contemporary authors.
