PARK SCHÖNTAL
A beautiful English landscape park in the centre of Aschaffenburg, with crocuses, rhododendrons and a grove of magnolias.
Schöntal Park is a charming English-style landscape park, which is popular for its rhododendrons, crocuses and especially magnolias along Würzburger Straße. Its present form is due to the penultimate Elector of Mainz, Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal, who had several green areas laid out at the end of the 18th century, creating a green belt from the Main to the pheasantry. The ruins of a former beguinage (a kind of secular convent for widows and single women) create a mysterious and romantic picture in the middle of the park.
