BAHRAIN SYNAGOGUE
The only synagogue in the Gulf, a symbol of religious freedom in Bahrain. At the end of the nineteenth century, part of the Jewish community in Iraq fled to Bahrain. The archipelago had a strong community of 1,500 members, when it was at its peak. Today, most families immigrated to the United States or Israel and only a small quarantine of Jews still reside in the Kingdom, which is not enough to bring together a minyan every week (a number to execute religious rites). The synagogue is therefore closed to the public. If you are lucky, the people who are responsible for the interview will be there at the same time as you and can let you in. The exterior of the building does not suggest that it is a place of worship.
