SOUK AL-QAYSARIYA
Go there and contact
The Al-Qaysariya market is the traditional heart of the Muharraq souk. Created at the beginning of the nineteenth century, it benefited from the influx of wealth flowing from trade in pearls. It has gradually expanded to become one of the most active markets in the Middle East. At its peak, over 300 merchants had established their shops there. But, with the competition of Japanese farmed pearls, the souk gradually lost its magnificent. For a long time, it was a place neglected by public authorities. But in the 2000 s, as part of the Pearl Road, a real rehabilitation effort was made by the Ministry of Culture. Today, small market veneers are packed with merchandise and badves to shop. The smell of the halwa still warm that the confectioners present just on their pond will follow you all along your visit.
