MOSS MANSION HISTORICAL HOUSE
In 1903, the construction of the Moss Mansion by contractor Preston Boyd Moss ("P.B.") strongly influenced the economic development of Billings. Masterpiece of New York architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh (who signed the Waldorf Astoria and Plaza), the imposing red brick mansion is now inscribed in the National Register of Historic Sites. It also served as a filming place for time films such as Son of the Morning Star (1991) or Return to Lonesome Dove (1993). The visit begins with a 13 minute video retracing the life of the Moss family and the role of Preston Moss in the development of Billings. Then it will be an opportunity to wonder in such a luxury. We admire particularly innovative installations such as the heating system installed on each floor and the call button of the servants, among other impressive technologies for the time. The 3 lower levels of the manor house are accessible on the visit, with the top floor transformed into a storage place and offices for museum staff. It is the whole history of the city that is being revamped, but also that of the family that tells itself through old connections, intimate newspapers and other historical evidence.
