CUSTER BATTLEFIELD MUSEUM

The museum, located on the former site of the Chief Sitting Bull camp, is a unique testimony to the famous battle and life at the time of the conquest of the West. Among other things, you can discover weapons found on the battlefield, including guns, revolvers, shields and many Lakotas weapons such as knives, a launcher, war sticks… There are also various amerindian accessories and clothing such as eagle feathers that belonged to Little Wolf, war shirts and a vast collection of moccasins. They are also 100 photographs of famous artists like David F. Barry who represent portraits of the main players in the battle: George Armstrong Custer, Baisse, Sitting Bull, Gall, Low Dog, Tom Custer… These photographs, which have been the subject of an international tour, offer a unique opportunity to confront those who have made the history of this region and of that country. Among the other essentials, an ancient Sioux canoe and ivory dice found on the site where Major Reno retired and a collection of paintings. A grave pays tribute to the unknown soldier found in 1926, probably one of the soldiers under the command of Reno. The «Monument of Peace», located behind the grave of the unknown soldier, represents a sculpture of two bronze pieces of bronze symbolizing Sitting Bull and General George Armstrong Custer making peace.
