VILLAGE DE KANTARA
A must between Davlos/Kaplıca and Kantara Castle. Beautiful views of both sides of the Karpas peninsula.
Perched on a pass of the Pentadactylos, 530 m above sea level, the village of Kantara/Καντάρα (same name in Greek and Turkish) is the obligatory crossing point by car between Davlos/Kaplıca and Kantara Castle. Although it has just a hundred inhabitants, it enjoys superb views over both sides of the Karpas peninsula. Here you'll find several restaurants, a hotel, a campsite and the abandoned church of the ancient Byzantine monastery of Panagia tis Kantariotissa ("Virgin of Kantara"), founded in 1228 by two monks from Asia Minor.
