Volcano at 1,370 m altitude, with a 10 km² crater, one of the widest in the world
At an altitude of 1,370 m, Sierra Negra's 10 km² crater is the island's main attraction. It can be reached from the village of Tomás de Berlanga via a 9 km dirt road. From the crater, you can also continue on to the Chico (8 km) or Azufre (10 km) volcanoes. You can rent camping equipment in the village, but beware of the frequent fog. You can also climb the crater on horseback, but check that the animal is in good health, as some travellers have noted the weakness of certain horses.
