VOLCÁN ALCEDO

The Alcedo volcano which culminates at 1,000 m is accessible from the eastern part of the island, by bus, from Puerto Villamil. Once you arrive at the checkpoint, you will find a path that leads through the thorny bushes to the edge of the crater; allow for 4 hours of fairly strenuous walking with a guide, which is compulsory as it is almost everywhere. It is in this 7 km² crater that the most important colony of land tortoises of the archipelago is concentrated (more than 4 000). It is possible to camp on the crest of the volcano; fires are forbidden. Bring drinking water.
