CHEMAMULL ESTATUAS
Wooden Mapuche statues at the northern entrance to the town, used during funerals to follow the soul of the deceased to the afterlife.
These statues are also located at the northern entrance of the city, in the same area as the Mano de Madera . The chemamull are Mapuche statues made of wood. They were mainly used during funeral rites to accompany the soul of the deceased to the afterlife. Here, the statues represent a man and a woman whose gaze is oriented to the east. This orientation is not insignificant and rather poetic: in other words, they look in the direction of the sunrise, where every day they await the rebirth of their loved ones with the arrival of dawn.
