ZONA ARQUEOLÓGICA LA VENTA
Site in a marshy area on the banks of the river Tonala, with constructions mixing various materials: earth, sand...
The site is located in a marshy area on the banks of the Tonalá River. The constructions were built in a clever mixture of earth, clay and sand, such as this gigantic conical pyramid of some 120 metres in diameter and more than 30 metres high. The basalt stones were imported from the Veracruz region and were used exclusively for the erection of monumental works. The site's museum offers a comprehensive overview of the cultures of the Olmec tradition.
