SAFA MASJID
Mosque, one of only two to have survived the Portuguese Inquisition, whose walls are adorned with beautiful arches
This mosque, also called Safa Shahouri Masjid, is one of only two mosques to have survived the Portuguese inquisition. The construction of this elegant structure, commissioned by Ali Adilshah (Sultan of Bijapur from 1557 to 1580), dates back to 1560. Beautiful arches adorn its walls. The mosque and the basin were once surrounded by fountains and gardens that have not stood the test of time. During the celebrations of Id-Ul-Fitr and Id-Ul-Zuha, the mosque is very popular with the local Muslim community.
