WALL DRUG STORE
A village in the air of Disneyland in the cowboy country that appears to be out of nowhere in the middle of the infinite prairie of South Dakota. It will be very difficult to miss out on exit 109 which leads to the Wall Drug, an incredible number of signs indicate direction, miles ahead and both directions. Be warned, it's very tourist, if not overdone, but it's definitely a very popular attraction. The reasons for this can be very numerous: Take a toilet break, stop filling your gourd, eat a tip, do a little shopping or simply dig your legs before you sink into the Badlands Park or continue your road east or west. If the place now seems unauthentic, it is the result of a fascinating story, that of a couple who came to this small village in South Dakota in the 1930 s, with the hope of living from a small store serving as a pharmacy and grocery store. Unfortunately, years pass without ever seeing customers pointing their nose. While they're two fingers away, it's Dorothy, the woman, who changes the story of this little shop. She is thinking of offering fresh water to travelers and communicating them by installing large signs along the road. A totally innovative idea at the time. Immediately after the posting of the signage, the store disguises and achieves an unparalleled success. Today, it is a village built around a small tourist center organized around a major alleyway and the famous Wall Drug Store, which is in itself a small town. There is a small pharmacy, fast food, many souvenir shops, attractions, but also reproductions of buildings of the day like a saloon or a mine. There's even a chapel. If you plan to camp in Badlands Park and require camping accessories, you will find a small specialty store. Children will have the embarrassment of choosing to distract themselves among the attractions a dinosaur performs on a regular basis. Finally, if you are looking for a little more authenticity and history, small narrow alleys are covered with photos that immortalize moments of life of the local and local personalities.
