At the water's edge fried zucchini, octopus risotto, dried mackerel, charcoal octopus or beans with dill... You will find here a lot of delicious things. The grandsons of the famous Pipinos continue to deliver their fresh fish under a shaded veranda on the docks. The father's caique still goes out every day. The fish is served with salads or potatoes. A joy on the plate - even if the portions are sometimes disappointing. The place is an institution and its managers know it.

The octopus was tough and chewy. When I brought it to their attention, they said it was because it was sun-dried never had octopus tough before. Then, when I asked to send it back, they still charged me half of it.

After spending some time at St. George's Beach, I decided to grab lunch at Captain Piponos Seafood Tavern nearby. As I approached, I noticed that this place was busier compared to other restaurants in the area. The setup was simple yet unique. They had paper table covers held down by rubber bands to prevent them from flying away with the wind, a practical touch that also added to the casual ambiance of the place.Once seated, the first thing that caught my eye was a flagpole where fresh catches of the day were hanging. It was clear that seafood was the star of the show here. The menu had a good variety of seafood options along with some Greek and European dishes. I ordered the octopus and mackerel; both were fresh and tasty. The simplicity of the preparation allowed the natural flavors to shine through. The service was quick and friendly, making the dining experience smooth. Despite the plain setup, the vibrant atmosphere, courtesy of a bustling crowd, made the place feel lively and enjoyable. The view of the sea added a serene backdrop to the whole dining experience. What stood out at Captain Piponos was the straightforwardness of it all. There were no frills, just good, fresh seafood in a casual, laid-back setting by the beach. The bustling crowd was a testament to the tavern’s popularity and the quality of the food they served. It was a satisfying, no-fuss meal with a view, making my visit to Captain Piponos a pleasant, memorable experience.
