NATIONAL CIVIL WAR MUSEUM
Although no major battles of the American civil war took place in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's capital, less than an hour from Gettysburg, had a duty to commemorate these milestones. The museum aims to tell the story of the Civil War in its entirety, covering not only the years 1861 to 1865, but also the early stages of the conflict from 1850 and its consequences until 1876. More than 24,000 objects, weapons of war, photographs and documents are collected, while small videos are shown in the various galleries. Part of the ground floor is dedicated to the Battle of Gettysburg. Other themes discussed included the role of women, the cost of war, the key role of President Abraham Lincoln and Camp Curtin, a northern army military training camp that saw nearly 10,000 soldiers pass through.
