This temple was erected in 765 at the request of Prince Kaijo, son of Emperor Konin. Its main deity is Kannon, bodhisattva of compassion. The buildings were destroyed in 1184 in a fire before being rebuilt a few years later. This temple is known to bring luck and success to its followers. Katsu indeed means in Japanese "to win", "to win". Inside are darumas, small figurines bringing luck to its owner. These small red statues are brought back to the temple once the wish has been granted.
