INUNAKIYAMA
The name of this mountain, inunakiyama, which means "the mountain of the barking dog", comes from an old legend. A hunter is said to have gone hunting with his dog, and while he was pointing at a very beautiful deer, his dog started barking very loudly, scaring the animal away. In anger, the hunter shot and killed his dog, before realizing that the dog's barking was only to warn him of the presence of a dangerous snake at his feet. From the end of the bus, walking for about twenty minutes in the heart of the mountain, we reach Shipporyoji temple. Founded in 661 by the legendary En no Gyoja, Shipporyuji is the main temple of the Inunaki sect of Shingon Buddhism. It is famous for its waterfall under which the faithful come to pray. It is called the takigyo, which allows to purify the soul and the body. From the temple, a hiking trail leads to the top of the mountain. It takes about 2.5 hours to walk there and back. If you are tempted, it is also possible to spend the night in one of the five onsen of Inunakiyama. But it is also quite possible to go there during the day, to relax and unwind for a few hours, and have lunch there as well. This stage is a perfect little getaway in the Japanese mountains, not far from the lively Osaka. The beautiful landscape, with its ravines, cliffs and waterfalls, has been selected as one of the 100 green views of Osaka for its remarkable beauty.
