MYŌKENJI KANNONDŌ
Halfway up the mountain stands this pretty little temple of the Shingon sect. It can be reached on foot from Umi no Eki in about twenty minutes. It was founded more than 600 years ago, but only one building remains, dating from 1772, all made of wood, the rest having burned down. The view from the temple to the sea is one of the most beautiful in the area. Near the temple is a butsuzō, a Buddhist statue of a praying monk. There are 88 of them in the mountain, representing the 88 temples of the Shikoku pilgrimage.
