RUINS OF THE CASTLE OF AKŌ
The construction of the castle of Akō was completed in 1661, under the leadership of Lord Naganori Asano. It was totally destroyed during the Meiji era. Of the buildings of yesteryear, only parts of the walls remain. The other buildings are replicas dating from about 20 years ago. On the ground, raised slabs form a plan of the castle. The names of the different rooms are written on these slabs, in Japanese: in black are the public areas, in white the private apartments of the lord and in red the areas dedicated to women.
