NORTH COAST TRAIL
A coastal and forestry trail known to be one of the most beautiful and challenging in Canada, located in Cape Scott Provincial Park.
A superlative hike, the North Coast Trail is a jewel on northern Vancouver Island. Crossing Cape Scott Provincial Park from east to west for just over 40 kilometers, this coastal and forest trail is reputed to be one of the most beautiful and challenging in Canada. Often unmarked and very poorly developed, the trail crosses the rainforest where you have to climb on giant tree trunks fallen during winter storms, cross rivers in cable cars and avoid numerous mud puddles, then the coast where you have to watch for bears and wolves as well as the tides to be able to walk along the white and blond sand beaches. Be careful, this beautiful and difficult hike is usually done in 4 days (5 or 6 if you want to make a detour to Cape Scott and San Joseph Bay) and requires complete autonomy (wilderness camping on the beach or rustic sites in the forest), technical equipment (bear spray, water purifier or tablets, GPS or satellite phone in case of emergency, tent and camping equipment) and serious hiking experience (it is highly recommended to know how to build a fire even in the rain, and it is essential to protect yourself from bears and to take the necessary measures, to know the safety rules regarding the management of food on site, etc.).).
As you will have understood, this is an adventure with a capital A that allows you to explore a vast and breathtaking wilderness against a backdrop of challenging yourself.
