On the eve of Saint Nicholas' Day, Vipiteno and Castelrotto are invaded by the Krampus, demonic creatures with long horns.
On the eve of the feast of the patron saint of children, the historic centres of Vitipeno and Castelrotto are invaded by the Krampus, demonic creatures with long horns that chase children (and adults too!) by ringing their bells. Fortunately, these frightening apparitions are followed by that of St. Nicholas who distributes sweets. Very popular in South Tyrol, the procession of St. Nicholas and the Krampus takes place in other towns in the Isarco and Adige valleys around December 6.
