A water procession is held in honor of the Niño Jesús de Amatitlán, whose decorated effigy crosses the city's lake.
This festival is dedicated to the Niño Jesús de Amatitlán, also called de Belén, to whom many miracles are attributed. On May 3, the day of the celebration of the Holy Cross, an aquatic procession is held on the city's lake, in the department of Guatemala. It is the only one of its kind in the country. The effigy of the Niño, adorned with flowers and paper, is placed on a large boat and crosses the water in front of other decorated boats, until it reaches a low rock, nicknamed "silla del Niño" - "chair of the Niño".
