The great Muslim fast has a special significance in the cradle of Islam. For a month, the country turns in slow motion.
Ramadan is the month of fasting imposed on all Muslims of age, usually from puberty onwards. Pregnant women, people who are ill, or those who are traveling are not required to do so. Among the many meanings of Ramadan is the willingness of the faithful to submit to the will of Allah and to conform to the tradition of Islam. During this month, eating, drinking, smoking and sexual intercourse are forbidden while the sun is up. Every evening, the fast is broken with a glass of water and dates.
