LACS MUTANDA ET MULEHE

Fed by several rivers, including the Ndego, which meanders down from Lake Bunyonyi, and separated from Lake Mulehe by a green shoulder, Lake Mutanda is the perfect place to let off steam. If you're a keen walker, this is the place for you! The lakeside establishments offer guided hikes to discover the local villages and the customs of their residents, or to explore the rolling hills, or for birdwatching (kingfishers, African gymnogenes, ibises and weaverbirds are just some of the birds that live here...). However, there's nothing to stop you walking on your own: the trail along the eastern shore of the lake is picturesque, as is the scenic and much more strenuous trail leading to Lake Mulehe from the Mutanda Lake Resort. Mountain biking is also in the spotlight here. Chameleon Hill offers a range of trails of differing length and difficulty, but with similar views (forests, cultivated fields, swamps, hilltop houses...). This lodge also offers the chance to combine sport and culture on the same day: mountain biking to Kisoro (approx. 20 km), viewing the preparation of coffee beans (drying, grinding...), boda to the Mutanda Eco Community Centre and return by motorboat. Finally, on and off the water, swimming and visiting the lake's islands by canoe or speedboat are a must...
