BATOCHE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
Visitor center with interpretation of the events of the Métis and Native battle with the federal government militia.
Traces of the defeat of the Métis and Native rebels, led by Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont, against the federal government militia on May 9, 1885, still mark the site. Gabriel Dumont and other Métis leaders are buried in the cemetery near the church. A Visitor Centre provides visitors with an interpretation of the events of this battle, as well as an introduction to the traditional Métis way of life, which was soon to be changed forever.
