PARQUE NATURAL MEXIQUILLO
A very big park located in the heights of the Sierra Madre, with enormous rock formations with rounded contours...
This very large park located on the heights of the Sierra Madre does not miss attractions, as well for its natural formations as for its never-ending walks. You enter through a valley of pastures that gradually give way to huge rock formations with rounded contours, whose rocks seem to have been placed one on top of the other: this is the famous garden of piedras or piedras encimadas; the further you go from the entrance, the wilder the place and the more intertwined the rocks. The other easily accessible attraction of the place is a beautiful and wide waterfall that faces a gorge offering beautiful views of the Sierra and the canyons below. From there, a path starts. Sheltered by the high pine forest, the first tunnel built at the time is 4 km away; continue on and go through two other small tunnels before arriving at the most important one, more than a kilometre long. At the end of this one, go up the path on your right to observe the waterfall; if you go on foot, remember to take a flashlight because it is very dark and strewn with stones. You will have walked a total of 14 kilometers to this point, which is a six-hour round trip on foot. You can also go there by bike or opt to rent a quad bike and have a guide accompany you on shorter or longer routes. You should know that the site has six waterfalls, more or less accessible. In the dry season, the starry nights are absolutely sublime.
