The last Catalan maquis, Ramon Vila i Capdevila (1908-1963), nicknamed "Caracremada" (burned face) because of an accident that marked his face during his childhood, was executed in 1963 by the Guardia Civil at the Creu Del Perelló site in Castellnou de Bages. The Musée dels Maquis tells the story of his life and the armed groups that opposed the Franco regime after the civil war. Buried directly on the ground, without any report, his remains were found and then moved to the Torre de Can Batista located in the village cemetery. A commemorative plaque reminds visitors that here lies the last Maquis of Catalonia.
