ESGLÉSIA I CAMPANAR DE SANTA MARIA DE NAVARCLES
The church of Navarcles was built at the end of the 17th century on the site of an old Romanesque church dedicated to Santa Maria, which has been mentioned in historical documents since the 10th century. Its austere façade is preceded by a baroque portal flanked by two pilasters topped by a frieze decorated with vegetal motifs. But above all, its elegant 26-metre high Baroque bell tower, crowned by a stone balustrade, symbol of the village added to the building in 1697, is worth mentioning. In its crypt, it contains a relic of Saint Valentine, protector of the Bages, preserved in a silver plateresque style reliquary, the only vestige of the rampages of the civil war. The ascent of the bell tower leads to the highest point of the village and offers a breathtaking view of the Pla de Bages and the monastery of Sant Benet. An animation video tells the geological history of the Geopark. Explanatory panels complete the package.
