The municipality of Callús is home to the largest group of textile colonies on the banks of the Cardener River. Over the past century, these former cotton processing factories were the mainspring of the Callus economy, but also of the Bages and part of Catalonia, before the crisis of the 1970s, pushing workers who came to work in the textile industry to leave the region. A moving testimony to this past era, the buildings of these workers' settlements are located in the vicinity of the city, in Antius, Cortes and Cal Cavaller.
