L’AUBERGE PROVENÇALE
Admittedly it is not cheap, but the Auberge Provençale is the promise of a charming stay in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley a few kilometres from Winchester. The road does not pass far, yet it is a small haven of peace that you can enjoy on the beautiful terrace of the main house, during a walk in the property or a relaxing break on the deckchairs in the middle of the lawn. The architecture that combines traditional Provençal and more contemporary American style plays on the combination of historical charm and modern comfort and it is quite successful. We like the Provençal winks, the santons and flower tablecloths of the main house and all the small decorative details in each room. In terms of cuisine, we also find this fusion of French and international flavours through local and seasonal cuisine. If the bistro offers a simpler menu, the restaurant is a beautiful gastronomic experience that has a certain cost but should satisfy the sharp and curious palates of French travellers. And if you wonder who is hiding behind a so-called Provencal establishment in the middle of the Virginia countryside, it is Alain, a Frenchman who has lived in the region for decades. If you want to visit the surrounding vineyards, you can opt for a guided tour in French with him. He will take the opportunity to tell you the history of the region and all the visits not to be missed. Ask at the reception upon arrival for information on the next available visits.
