VISITE DU PARC
Current protocol requires that tourists be accompanied by an armed ranger. His presence is deemed necessary as protection against illegal gold diggers who frequent the Chimanimani Range and he is there for your peace of mind in the unlikely event that you come across one of these diggers. Please note that the ranger is not a guide. However, he knows the different routes to all the popular spots and is able to take you to them. Ranger reservations are required at least 24 hours prior to starting your hike. This is done through the national parks office in the village of Chimanimani.
Travelers can hire porters to carry their backpacks and equipment from Mutekeswane base camp to the hut. The initial climb is quite steep and this ordeal takes between 2-4 hours depending on your fitness level. To book porters for your trip, please contact Timothy at +263 779 132 068. Please note that porters are not employed by the parks, so payment must be made directly to them or to Timothy and not to the park office.
If you wish to hire a guide to accompany you on your hike, there are some very experienced local guides. They know the trails and have done many hikes in the mountains. You can contact Collen (the most experienced guide) at +263 783 254 868 or Timothy.
