Queen of the mountains on the Cooley Peninsula, Slieve Foy forms the majestic backdrop to Carlingford. Rising to 589 metres, it is the highest mountain in County Louth. Among the legends surrounding the Cooley Peninsula, it is said that the Irish hero and legendary warrior, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, rests on Slieve Foy.
Hiking tip: You can tackle the Slieve Foy Loop, which is 5 miles long (about a 3 hour walk) and a map of which is available from Carlingford Tourist Information Centre.
