VILLAGE OF LIÊU XA
A village where the cardboard masks and drums that delight children at the Moon Festival are made.
Liêu Xa, located in the south-east of the capital, is a locality where cardboard masks and " ông hao " drums are made, which are the joy of children during Trung thu (or Moon festival). The drums have the shape of small barrels painted in red. At the ends of the barrel are two buffalo skin membranes. The masks are made of papier-mâché and covered with a paste made from manioc powder. The moulding representing animals is made on children's faces. The last step, painting the mask, is a very popular activity for children.
