WATERMOLLEN VAN OPWETTEN
This superb historic and photogenic mill is located in a hushed and wooded setting
A superb historic and photogenic mill, not far from Nuenen, which Van Gogh painted at the end of May 1884 following a visit to the site with his friend Anthon van Rappard. Superbly preserved and restored in 2010, it is said to date back to the 11th century and to have been built by monks from the Abbey of Saint-Trond. It boasts the largest waterwheel in the Netherlands. You can eat in the brasserie next door. The cosy, wood-panelled setting is the perfect setting for a fine meal.
