Founded in 1960, Storm King is an outdoor museum of contemporary art covering some 200 hectares. In the middle of vast green spaces, stand monumental sculptures that, despite their remarkable appearance, follow the landscape, in which they blend strangely. Other notable works by Alexander Calder, Isamu Noguchi and Roy Lichtenstein are part of the permanent collection. The landscape itself has been worked, if not sculpted, to become a work of art in its own right. Perhaps the most striking example is the Wave Field by artist Maya Lin.
